T-Mobile

AT&T has very poor reception in my neighborhood, so I just switched to T-mobile and reception is almost perfect. BTW, LNP took only 9 hours 12/22/03

As good as all the others I've tried (T-mobile, AT&T TDMA, Cingular)

very top of Potrero Hill is notorious for many bars (good signal strength), yet horrible reception. I assume this is due to very poor C/I ratio (carrier to interference). The network also fails to be able to maintain calls (properly handover) when moving from the north-facing slope of the hill to the south-facing slope and vice versa. It seems like a netwrok engineer should be able to solve this problem.

No problems here in piedmont ave neighborhood of Oakland, the Cingular / Treo even works well in my basement. Never had a dropout (then again, there is a Cingular store at the end of my street - maybe they have some sort of tower / booster there?)

Cell phone coverage is terrible - do not get ATT service if you live in Berkeley. Verizon is much better, especially on the east side of campus (Law School, Chem Dept).

I'm sitting at my house, and on my Nokia (older version), i get 2 bars or 1 bar, with lots of static. I have to lean left and right at times to hear clearer.
