AT&T

I rarely have issues. SF, East Bay, and Marin are all totally fine. Driving across Richmond Bridge, sometimes reception goes down as signal gets switched to a new cell. I am not being paid by AT&T to write this review, by the way. I just feel it's expensive. But I guess it is worth it, seeing reviews of other networks,

I switched from CREDO (a socially responsible company)which was ok if a bit pricey. It uses Sprint. Thought I could get a better deal with Verizon and I wanted a walk-store. But who cares about that now given the horrific service we have received. We have the dropped calls, and long periods of time when it is not available. The back of the house has not had service for a long time. Promises were made but never honored. This includes internet service in the back of the house. My daddy told me never to pay for something I did not get. Sorry Dad.

I get a lot of missed calls that say to the caller something to the affect of the subscriber is not available. It's worse with the Motorola X.

Dropped calls. Can't make or receive calls inside the Albany Target store-they say only T-Mobile has this problem.

80% of the time I have 2 bars, 15% I have 1 or no reception at all.

Any company that has good reception and doesn't drop calls.

Outside the reception is okay, depending on where you walk. A few times while walking my dog a call has dropped. While inside my apartment, the occasionally drop increases. For example, I can be sitting on my bed, not moving much and the call will drop in the middle. I have to be very strategic to where I stand / sit to make and hold a phone call conversation.

Coverage is generally awful in the Montclair hills. My first carrier was T-Mobile when I moved here and I would get one bar. I could only reliably make calls if I went out to the street. I switched to Boost mobile, which runs on Sprints network. No coverage at all. Beware that even though they're a no-contract carrier, they will not refund the first month. When in doubt, get the absolute cheapest plan, or a pay-as-you-go plan, to test coverage so you don't get burned if you need to cancel like I did. I asked the upstairs neighbors what they use and based on that switched to ATT. The coverage and wife are acceptable but the BIG downside is ATT costs nearly double what other carriers charge. 300 MB / 300 Minutes / 300 texts is $88!

Verizon service in downtown Berkeley is terrible. I'm often in Civic Center Park for lunch, and my 3G iPhone on Verizon usually only gets 2-3 bars, and sometimes, like today. it goes to 1x (analog? seriously?) WTF is wrong with coverage form ALL the carriers in Berkeley? Totally ridiculous!
