AT&T

I've had AT&T for about 9 years and the service has become very, very poor. I have trouble getting reception in my home, and static or dropped calls are the norm. I'm almost ready to move to Verizon because AT&T is not in the service business, they are in the sales business. "What can we sell you and how much can we charge." At their store in El Cerrito plaza they will sell you a phone, or let you pay a bill but can not help with service problems. AT&T doesn't run customer service centers just sales outlets. It's common in the industry to spend more money on marketing than maintaining service standards. You will note there are no commitments to providing quality service. Zip.

We love Verizon: Great customer service (alway jobs in the USA, no off-shore customer service!), great reliability, mostly great reception--As a visiting nurse, I drive 6 counties and I really need reliable good service at night. But for the longest time, we couldn't get calls on our mobile phones in our own house! Verizon was embarrassed but couldn't fix it on their end. So they suggested we buy a booster. Now our reception is perfect EVERYWHERE. I really lust after an iPhone, but after reading all the bad reviews of AT&T from people right here in my zip code I'm going to stay with Verizon.

My reception was below average- two bars or less- until about a month ago, when it suddenly became far worse- frequent total losses of service, cycling through loss and regain until I just turn the phone off. I've called Verizon's tech support three times, and they say there's been transmitter work in the area and it'll get better, but after a month I've come to understand they're just shining me on. My phone gets a great signal, just a mile away in any direction, but North Oakland has been, evidently, left for dead. I'm looking at Sprint, through Credo. It couldn't be worse.

Usually I get full bars of UMTS / HSDPA 3G in my area. Otherwise, when I am at home, my connection drops in half to 2 bars out of four (windows mobile phones show four bars instead of the 5-7 bars other phones show). Inside my home, I get EDGE, never any 3G. T-Mobile is pretty good in my area, I can't complain. I just wished it worked inside the 12th st and 19st BART stations.

Fed up - thats what I am. It's useless as a phone unless I park it outside my house pointing southwest and hope I hear it ring. People get frustrated, my kids can't reach me, the unreliability is pushing me to dump my Iphone next week. Is it Berkeley zoning battles that are limiting cell tower installation? What exactly is the problem with AT&T transmissions around here?

I can take my blackberry storm to friggin tilden park, and STILL GET A CALL. I hate the idea of sounding like a Verizon ad but IT'S TRUE.

I've had ATT Wireless (blue) GSM service since 2004. It used to be fine until the iPhone came out. Since then, it's gradually deteriorated to the point where I have to ask callers to repeat themselves and calls are regularly dropped. Reception fluctuates from 0-5 bars many times a minute. Strangely enough, since I have an old blue SIM, sometimes my phone roams on T Mobile. Then I get 5 bars continuously -- until it switches back to an ATT tower. I used to think that my plan, 1100 local (all of CA and nearby NV -- just what I need) minutes per month for $40 was great and that ATT could have it back when they pried it from my cold dead fingers. However, now I'm considering giving it up (that's how I found this site) when this $50 per month unlimited minutes, texting and data pricing war breaks out. It's 2009. If ATT can't expand its network to accommodate all the customers it's taking money from, then I want out. Life's too short to spend entire phone calls repeating oneself.

You have to step out of the house for reception, it's a real shame. This is a class lawsuit waiting to happen.
