T-Mobile

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | Harrison St. | 29th St., Oakland, CA 94611 |

I used to get Average to Below Average reception here, and sometimes lose network coverage altogether. Sometime this year that changed and now my signal is strong and I'm always on-network.

Got about 1.5 bars on the street but while I'm in my house. Got no reception at all. Have called TMobile many times but no luck.

Verizon

1 Out of 5 (1 star) | N. Berkeley Hills, Berkeley, CA 94707 |

Reception in the N. Berkeley hills is very bad. Despite reassurances from Verizon that things will get better, they haven't. Dropped calls, when you can connect at all, are a way of cell life here.

Verizon

2 Out of 5 (2 stars) | Gillman | Stannage, Albany, CA 94706 |

Pretty variable reception here - somewhat better since I upgraded from my LG VX4000, and they may have improved the signal. But dropped and missed calls are still not unusual. My next door neighbor also has Verizon and I often see them out on the sidewalk explaining that they don't get any reception in the house. Verizon has not been particuarly helpful here - often giving me BS explainations. I finally got someone who was honest and said that there are holes in their Berkeley coverage and there's nothing they can do until more antennas get approved (hard to do in NIMBY Berkeley) A year ago I moved from 2 blocks away (Marin and Cornell) - then I had flawless 5-bar reception all the time with Verizon. What a difference a few blocks can make!

Verizon

1 Out of 5 (1 star) | Moraga Rd. | Rheem Blvd., Moraga, CA 94556 |

very spotty throughout rheem valley area of moraga. Calls always drop off on rheem blvd where I live. occasionally my phone roams at home and I get great reception, but I don't know what the other network is that is providing such good signal strength.

Verizon

3 Out of 5 (3 stars) | Redwood Heights Near Redwood / 35th Ave. | Monterey Blvd., Oakland, CA 94619 |

Reception below the ridgeline on the west side of Hwy. 13 was absolutely miserable in the past. I rarely could hang onto any call for more than a few minutes -- essentially unusable. Verizon was unresponsive to concerns about coverage. Reception quality seems to have improved significantly in the past couple of years. Now usable on a more consistent basis, but still fades out and drops sometimes.

Sprint

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | Treasure Island, San Francisco, CA 94130 |

Sprint has been steadily getting better in San Francisco, and I've had them for 4 years now. Still the occasional dropped call from my house in TI, otherwise no complaints at all.

Verizon

4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | Bay Farm Elementary, Alameda, CA 94502 |

This area has always been problematic for cell coverage until they installed a tower at the fire station (1 mile away). Now, I can get a signal both outside and inside my house. The voice quality isn't as good as landline, but at least I can make a call from inside my house. I don't know if the voice quality is due to the phone or the cell coverage. I previously had SprintPCS. With Sprint, it only worked in certain rooms of my house, not everywhere in the house. So, the Verizon signal seems to be an improvement. I also tried T-Mobile. Their signal only works outside the house, not inside.
