Verizon is easily the worst service provider I've ever used. I need to go outside and walk halfway down the block in order to reliably make a call. And that call will be dropped within five minutes. And most of the five minutes will be taken up with "can you hear me now" and "can you say that again". I have contacted Verizon, and they sent one of their tech people down here with some sort of signal detector, and they agree: it sucks. In fact, it sucks so badly they have let me out of my contract and I am changing (don't know to which provider yet, that's why I'm here) without the early termination fee. If you have any intention of using your phone in Berkeley, make sure you are NOT using Verizon. If you already have Verizon, call them and make them let you out of your contract. Was this review helpful to you?
T-mobile reception has gotten increasingly worse over the last few months. Reception has always been spotty at Southshore, but now the reception over the entire island has gotten worse. Was this review helpful to you?
No problems whatsoever... getting antsy and want to switch (verizon phones aren't that great), but all the reviews of bad service with other providers are scaring me to stay with the boring Verizon phones. Was this review helpful to you?
Gets between 1-3 bars. Almost all calls longer than 5min get dropped, indoors or outside. Generally poor reception in Berkeley and along I-80. Excellent in SF and south bay though. T-Mobile informed me a year ago new towers were going up in my area, but I've seen no change, and now that my contract's up I'll cancel. Was this review helpful to you?
5 / 5 at most outdoor places. At least 2 / 5 or 3 / 5 in most classrooms. With its CDMA technology, the sound quality is perfect. Was this review helpful to you?
Seems like I'm talking to a garbled misfit every other call... Any solutions? Was this review helpful to you?
very poor reception and service; T-Mobile will have you come back for "phone adjustments" until you are past the return period. phone works great skiing at Northstar and other Tahoe resorts. Just not home! Was this review helpful to you?
Automatic setting won't work for TMOBILE - have only 1 bar. Set to manual and selected band 850 which is mostly for Cingular while phone tells me about T-Mobile connection. Spoke with CSR and they mentioned about personal receiver station hooked to each household, similar to home cordless base station. Seems like a repeater. Perhaps it is just a baloony. But I get better stable reception after switching to manual mode (2-3 bars)Was this review helpful to you?
AT&T Wireless (TDMA)
Many dropped calls in house. Better on upper Solano Ave.Was this review helpful to you?
Cingular's merger with ATT did nothing good for our service. there are so many dead zones around Berkeley / Oakland that you can't really have a phone conversation while driving. In the Claremont Hotel area you can't even get a call. I get calls about half the time, messages show up on the screen and I've never got a ring. No customer service at night and on weekends? Unbelievable. The operators are rude and uncaring. I cannot stand this service and am thinking of going to TDMA with Verizon. Sound quality isn't as good, but at least I can talk on the phone without constant drops. Was this review helpful to you?
