I just moved to San Jose from San Leandro. I thought Sprint's coverage was bad before, but now it's unusable. The voice quality at my new apartment is so bad I can't make or receive calls there. They sent me an Airave device to route calls through the internet, but that's unusable at least 90% of the time. My phone won't connect to the Airave unless I call tech support (through Skype on my laptop) and go through a tedious reset procedure. When I leave the apartment and come back, the phone won't connect again. The 4G LTE network is unusable through the whole Bay Area. The CDMA network is fast enough to stream Pandora in the car maybe 50% of the time. Looking up addresses on Google Maps is an exercise in frustration. I usually have to switch to airplane mode and switch back to get a 3G connection that works (slowly). I've decided to quit calling tech support and get out of my contract early. I just need a phone that works.

Little or no AT&T reception! Dropped calls! Can't receive calls anywhere in my home! Use to work perfectly. Something changed. What? Very expensive contract for lack of service! Hours on phone with tech people. They don't know what to do. Going to switch carriers!

I have been paying $10 4G PREMIUM FEE for 4 years. 4G HAS NEVER BEEN IN THIS AREA and it never will be. You would think 4G LTE would be in this area then? No. Even years after their 4G LTE phones were released? No. Even after all these years, 1 - 2 bars, "3G" which is actually 1X, and all I get from my complaints are "call us again in a week" after I complain.

What good is unlimited internet access if Verizon doesn't support the deivice or the service. One would think that when I went to the default Search Home Page that the message that I could change my preferances at the MS Bing Home Page wouldnt display either! But NO there it is. Displaying perfectly. Yet totally useless.

I have lived in the area for 2 years starting 2012. Verizon cell reception has always been bad, one bar at most in my home. I could however make calls when standing by a window upstairs in my house and I had the occasional dropped call. Lately, since the building of the stadium and all of the new construction I cannot make many calls and when I do get a call to go through it gets dropped multiple times and I cannot keep a connection for more than 2 minutes. Horrible. Verizon tells me it's my phone but I have had 3 different cell phones and everyone who comes over has a different cell phone and they can't make calls either.

Horrible reception in our house (almost none!) dropped calls. It's pointless. Will be going back to Verizon ASAP!

AT&T

Good voice quality, decent data, but there are times when data really sucks, especially in downtown SF. I would give them a good rating but they are too expensive, thinking about switching to T-Mobile.

5 Out of 5 (5 stars) | Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, San Jose, CA 95113 |

I am from Detroit, and decided to go sightseeing in different cities every summer. We chose San Jose and visited some Basilicas, and made some calls there and Verizon's Reception at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph is perfect, outstanding, and clear. I would not recommend, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint and MetroPCS. Bad, NOT RELIABLE. Sprint and T-Mobile and MetroPCS, my friend (MetroPCS)and my Dad had Sprint, my Dad's Colleague(T-Mobile) cant make calls, and suck. Verizon is good my Mom and I have Verizon for a long time, and clear, I travel internationally and Verizon works there only. AT&T is good for U-verse, Cellphone is too spotty and not good. AT&T I have for TV, Internet, and Landline. Don't get the others, Get Verizon.

I get 3G everywhere in Santa Clara near airport, and south into South San Jose. However, within 1 block of my house, it miraculously switches to 4G (where I have DSL anyway via WiFi), and up to 1 mile directly south. Seems like they have a single 4G cell tower in my area, but not at Meridian and Hamilton like the Sprint sales office was touting (all 3G there).

Terrible signal quality here on both Sprint and Virgin Mobile. Frequent dropped calls, garbled audio. 3G only works if you're standing next to an open window. Typically 1 of 6 bars (-104 dBm) indoors 2nd floor.

I use A LOT of Data, which I don't care about coverage when I have wifi, but right now I don't have wifi and running on simply the non existent Sprint towers. OMG makes me so mad ! I'm an avid article reader and Youtube viewer... Videos are constantly blurry and buffing every 10 secs. Makes me just want to chunk my phone out the balcony. Let's see, there's a certain spot I found in my apartment that gives me 3-4 bars off and on and that's in my kitchen.. Next to my fridge. Other areas in my apt are mainly 1-2 bars or always no bars and searching... searching... .searching for signal. Even when I drive out to El Camino, it's still searching for signal, it's annoying when I'm trying to get directions on MAPS. But you know where I do get all 5 Bars ?... . Santana Row. Of course it would be where the rich are. Don't they just get it all ? Geez sprint, for every hundred I drop each month, you'd think you would at least give me good service. Ohh and not to mention when I'm at home, my calls are constantly dropped. I tell my friends I'd prefer them to text me. My contract is over in March 2014, YAY ! So I'm definitely searching for a better carrier in my area but seems like all carriers have been failing lately.

I regularly call Sprint to complain about the reception of one-two bars at home. Even outside the reception dips significantly in San Jose. Sprint blames my phone- I reboot, they reset cell service, etc. with no effect. They blame my phone but then why does it work so well when I drive to other parts of the Bay like SFO or SF? Tired of being treated like I am crazy. Friend uses AT&T with similar issues.
