Verizon
I get great reception even in my basement. Heavy use of internet / data without problems. I travel through out the county for work and have very rarely had any issues with dropped calls or inability to access data. I rely heavly on maps in my phone and find they are always available when needed. Occasionly loose service in the Santa Cruz Mts and backroads in south Santa Clara county.

I have Sierra 3G / 4G. 3G gets 6 bars (100%) signal strengh but speed is slow - 1Mbs down. 4G gets 2 bars with antenna assis and window open but again only 1Mbs -> 1.5Mbs down and.20 up. Works but FAR CRY from 4Mpbs down! promised for 4G and only 2 bars. Its cold wtih window open in winter.

AT&T
Ranges between 1-5 bars, never have I not been able to call out. Typical is about 2 bars. I don't use much data on my phone, so this is acceptable to me.

Verizon
Phone never rings unless it is held near a front window. Battery only lasts approx 2-3 hrs because it is always "hunting". Phone is basically useless when I am at home!

Verizon
Good reception but rarely LTE! You should really include what KIND of reception. Yes, I have NEVER have a problem making a call on Verizon in Silicon Valley areas I've been in (many)... BUT, unlike AT&T where I could surf and call at the same time, here I can do only one or the other. It truly sucks. I miss AT&T. Now I have to tell the person I am talking to that I need to call them back because I want to surf the web, get map directions, send an email, or send them a pic I just took. What a disappointment!

I used Verizon years ago: nothing special, but very expensive. Tried AT&T: spotty coverage, if at all. Tried T-mobile: it won't work in half of my house (like AT&T) so missed and dropped calls are frequent. I just tried Boost (Sprint piggyback): 3G / 4G comes and goes, Wifi is fine but can't make solid phone calls-might as well be in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I can't hold a conversation with the store where I bought it, 6 blocks away. Is there any service that can handle this area without paying an arm and a leg. Texting? I don't know, but it took me a week to get an email from the East Bay via an iphone. Yes, I make and take phone calls, text rarely and email often... if I ever find a affordable and decent service for this black hole of an area. Until then, I make calls outside and use my CPU for business. I'm not keeping Boost, that's for sure.

T-Mobile
T-Mobile reception is very poor. Carriers should put some cell towers in this area.

In my own home I can hardly ever get service! Calls won't go through or get dropped. When I'm talking to people, they can only hear about 1 in five words and vice versa! The Internet connection is beyond horrible!

Signal boosters have had little effect on improving my IPhone's reception; on a daily basis lost calls, seeming like the poor device has some form of deficit I can't remedy. The high tension wires are only 500 feet to the south of my location. This is a 20th century problem, isn't it? Help me out guys... Sincerely, IPhone Breaking Bad.

I can't make any calls in my apartment, my texts are frequently delayed in getting delivered, and my data almost never works even though I'm supposed to have at least 2G.

Verizon
Worst reception ever. Either zero or a tease of 1 which amounts to zero when you actually try to make a call. Called Verizon and after numerous conversations (and much time wasted) they finally told me they were aware of the problem, were not going to fix it, and I could pay $350 to get a cell transmitter connected to my home WiFi. When I expressed to them that I lived in the "heart of Silicon Valley" and expected service to be much better, the supervising agent replied: "you can't expected to get good reception 'living in a valley'"! Incredible!

I got the Iphone 4S through our small business package, of course, ATT is the signal carrier. The Iphone was not perform any thing since the day one and we tried to contact ATT service to correct the problem but was not going any where. The iphone signal fluctuated from no service to a single bar. Very embarrassed when it dropped calls so often to business people. That was not the worse at zip code 95008, but when we went home at zip code 95148, the nightmare continued. No service, no signal, even we went out to the front or back yard and still got an except able signal to use the Iphone. When we discussed the problems to ATT, and all their tricks were wanting to sell you a " Microcell " device to boot the signal. we asked them how many " Microcell " that you expected us to buy. Several of them? The rep. answered. That was the joke of the century that we experienced right in our country. We took the same Iphone to some Asia countries earlier and their signal coverage worked a Champion. By the meantime, when I decide to write this review, I have spoken to ATT more than ten time with the same issue, too bad is our contract still has a long way to go. Furthermore, each time they give you a case number and promised some higher level personnel will contact you in couple days but the calls never came.

My cel reception at my house has gone through ups and downs since I moved. I get dropped calls. I'll get a voicemail 2 hours after it was left, with my phone having never rung. If by some miracle I manage to get a connection, if I don't stand just so, I'll be able to hear the other person, but they won't be able to hear me, or they'll describe my voice as "coming from underwater". At first, I thought perhaps my microphone was failing, but this happens when I use my bluetooth headset as well.

AT&T
Cellular voice and data reception is unusable. Often get 2 bars but still cannot make or receive calls, send text messages, or connect for data. Told ATT about it. And told them to at least give me a microcell tower. They said no. So I guess they don't need me as a customer. Will definitely drop ATT after my contract's up this year.

Verizon
There is a sizeable Verizon dead zone in this area, and this is an area of huge development with a new shopping center, corporate offices, and a 450 unit condo complex under construction. Outside of buildings, Verizon is 1 bar - inside there is no coverage - calls not possible. It has been this way for years. Anyone who buys into the new condos under construction at this site better plan on getting a land line! Wonder if they are wiring copper into these new buildings?? Under the 4G load in dense Silicon Valley areas - Verizon's network is beginning to suffer.

No cell signal here for last 5 years. It will not have any improvement neither. The community for the concerns of health, voted down any cell phone towers here.

In the last few months the service quality has dropped dramatically. Although my phone shows 3 to 4 bars when I am not on a call as soon as I get a call it drops to 1 or none. I end up losing the connection and have to wonder around outside looking for a good spot to return the call.

Sprint
Update: It is now September 13, a full week after all \"vision\" upgrades were supposed to have been completed, and service is still poor to nonexistent. All the Sprint representatives have now been trained to say they understand how frustrating it is, but it will all be worth it because the new service is going to be so awesome. I had perfectly fine service before, so for me, no, being without service for more than a month is not going to be worth it, no matter how great the new service is. To their credit, Sprint refunded me two entire months of charges, although I did have to push for it. Previous review, August 5, 2012: Since around 1pm on August 1 (3 days ago), signal went from consistently 4 bars to now wildly fluctuating between 0-3. Sprint insisted for 2 days that all towers were working normally in the area. Finally yesterday they told me upgrades were going on at any given time through September 7, 2012 since April of this year. Representative was unable to give me any useful information about work being done to towers specifically near me. Basically, you may not have service for another month or more, tough luck. Service went from very good to almost unusable.

My phone is new. Shows nothing when I dial. Have tried various nearby locations. Could be the phone? GreatCall is a no-contract company like Tracfone, using the Verizon system. Added to above review.
