AT&T
5 bars in upper Cedar Ridge, but no 3G. We also have a Verizon phone that gets 5 bars. In the past couple years, reception has improved dramatically. We cancelled our land line service, which shorts out every time it rains (the service tech told us that the squirrels chew on the pole lines)! We have line of sight to Mt. Elizabeth - wonder if they put a tower there?

In Pinebrook, Sprint seems to work here on multiple phones. Roaming only, so no data, only voice and text. AT&T doesn't seem to work. According to all of the major service provider maps (see websites), Sprint is the only one with coverage in Pinebrook. Signal strength varies around Arnold, but mostly it is available. Forget it in Dorrington or Camp Connell or heading to Bear Valley. Works well in Bear Valley, Murphys, Angels Camp. Data available in Angels Camp.

Started out great the first couple months. Then as usual with all cell phones they stopped working as well. spotty reception and missed call, even though we are in what they call excellent call range!

There is no reception from Hathaway Pines to Tamarack. Completely dead, even with a boosting antenna (which works quite well, elsewhere) I can't believe that AT&T would not serve all these people (or at least find a roaming connection)

If you live in Valley Springs and spend most of your time in this area, do not waste your money on an iPhone. The data service up here sucks so bad that the data features on the iPhone either don't work or are so slow they are impractical. Lots of dead area and dropped calls too. ATT really needs to do something about the service in this area.

I had no complaints until 4-16-2011 when I experienced No Service message all day about 9:30pm I had 1-2 bars tried to call my mother to let her know what was going on this is my only phone. My mother is 83 and lives alone and I also live alone and I just had achelies tendon surgery. While we spoke I lost service again. On 4-17-2011 I called AT&T and spoke to customer service I was told a service tech would call me as there is a problem in my area. I am still waiting for that phone call. I found out yesterday that people are having problems reaching me. When a friend called me the phone would ring a couple of times and stop on my side I never knew it rang as I did not hear it and there is no record of a call. When he was finally able to leave a message it showed I had a voice message but not that a call was missed. This person was very upset he could not get through to me because his wife has a high risk pregnancy and was in the hospital. He told me that later when he had car problems the tow truck driver was also having problems with his phone. What is the problem AT&T?

First we had Verizon, but they didn't have a tower around yet, so no reception. Then switched to AT&T, no service at all, and even less with an iphone. Switched to Golden State and I get service about everywhere I've gone. It works great even when going to Sac, Stockton, Sonora, ect.. Like someone said before, "AT&T are not for the foothills." I'm perfectly happy with Golden State.

AT&T works perfect if you can see their Monopole (tower) at the end of Ross Dr.(where the water tank is). If you can't see the water tank, then AT&T can't see you. If you can see the water tank, you're good to go! That is... If your phone is still capable of using EDGE. If you have a 3G phone that insists on using 3G instead of older networks, your phone will constantly look for 3G sites in the valley or elsewhere, and you will get dropped calls. Force your 3G phone OUT of 3G and you won't have any problems. Just because your 3G phone says you have 2 bars (or more) signal in Valley Springs does not make it so. Just try making a call like that, go ahead... See??!

When I purchased my home here in Sonora in 2001, ATT told me, I would get excellent reception and that they were in the process of placing more towers through out the area. Guess what ! Here it is in 2011 and they haven't done it. Finally I talked with someone at the local ATT store and was told it wasn't going to happen. I switched to Golden State which also allows Verizon reception in this area. I have read where others were told the same thing by ATT. Golden State and Verizon work together and I can get reception down in the middle of Crystal Falls Dr., which is referred to as the hole. RECOMMENDATION: ATT is not for the foothills. Go with Verizon or Golden State, they have free roaming.
