AT&T Wireless (GSM)
I am a communications manager for a medical company. While working for the company in search of new, rugged solutions for my company, I have made the following observations about AT&T GSM Coverage: Most anywhere on the island is decent coverage, especially lately. However the GSM network has some notable weak points. I am aware that Mililani area is a serious dead spot. Parts of Mililani have magnificent coverage, esp near the walmart AT&T kiosk. However anywhere near the "old" section of Mililani and in the gulch between Mililani and Wahiawa is extremely suspect. By Safeway, it's barely 1 bar of coverage and indoors in that area, coverage is nonexistent. It is my understanding that recently (this summer) that they have done some work on it so take advantage of their 30 day buyers remorse if the darn thing doesnt fit your needs. In town, I had no problems. Ewa Plain, No problems. H1 / H2 merge, always lose connection. Aiea, Pearl City, no problems with some weak, but useable signals in the Palisades area. North Shore, in and out (T-Mobile and Nextel have much better coverage out there) Castle Junction (weak). Waimanalo, good, if not spectacular coverage in most areas (probably due to relatively flat topography). AT&T is completely useless out near Dillingham Field. If you have need to have phone service out there, my suggestion is to use Nextel. I have gotten 5 bars on my phone all the way out to the end of the road.

I just bought my Motorola V600 about a month and a half ago. So far, the reception has been good and I don't get cut off while talking. However, friends and family who also have T-Mobile in Ewa Beach says that the reception there is kind of bad, especially around the area near Habush.

Reception is good in residential areas, poor anywhere else. Unknown if it is the phone, or the service, but having a call loose reception when you're dialing 911 and talking to an emergency operator trying to report a car accident, or calling 911 to report that you just saw an elderly man collapse on the side of the road, is just plain bad. Both situations happened to me, right in downtown honolulu. If anywhere in the entire freakin state should have good service, downtown honolulu should be it. I want to be able to try a cell phone provider and phone before I make my final purchase decision. You can test drive a car before you buy it, and most retailers for almost any product will let you return it if you're unsatisfied. I wish cell phone providers would get with the program, and stop their collusion in trapping customers in long term service contracts, with phone and service combinations that they know are poor (for their particular geographic area).

Good reception throughout Oahu, Hilo, and Kona. Don't use this service for a Notebook data connection -- it is not available. According to AT&T only GSM will handle data or fax calls. You will need to purchase a different phone if you want to use your phone for this. (This discovery was very upsetting!)

Almost perfect reception. I can usually continue a call in the elevator of Honolulu Tower.

My husband and I kept on thinking that it was the phone that gave us no reception in that area so we changed our phones. Now we are finding out that there is no coverage in that area at all and it wasn't our phones. So when will you solve the problem with no coverage in that area?

I cannot get my phone to connect while I'm in Habush in Ewa Beach area. I wish T-Mobile would make a site out there. I spend weekends and days out there watching my son play sports too bad my wife has a problem getting ahold of me due to poor or no reception at all. We even changed phones nothing has helped.

Awful reception / dropped calls. Free and clear my butt.

Sometimes the reception is good but most times the reception has static. But then again it's rather hilly in this part of town.

I agree with the other who said this phone with this carrier sucks, in general.
