Verizon
Lived in 6 locations over 7yrs on Oahu and have been with VZW since about 1999. I have commuted from every side of the island as a result of living in many places. Reception with Verizon on this island is the best because it is the most consistent and they have better towers. Although AT&T has a lot of towers, they must be renting the towers from people who do not maintain them. I do not agree with Verizons prices, but if you plan on playing tour guide to all of your friends and family, then go with Verizon. Tower maintenence is a big issue and had been the most misleading promotional thing used by AT&T (in my opinion). Although AT&T has one tower at N.Shore, they still drop calls. I've only lost 2 calls in 7 years of traipsing around here, while my daughters who are from mainland and using AT&T, drop them CONSTANTLY. You get what you pay for over here, that's for sure.

I'm fed up with the unacceptably poor cellular service from Sprint over the last year here in Hawaii. Sprint service in general is poor all the time but today I have not been able to make or receive calls and texts or go on the internet. When I called Sprint they told me AGAIN that they are making changes to the towers in my area and that they will get word back from their technicians within 72 hours!?!?! Are you kidding me?? I rely on my cell for work among many other important things. Unacceptable. They told me this same excuse back in July 2014 too. And I'm not even sure if I believe them as I hadn't received service in both Kailua and Kaneohe today. Is the same tower providing service to both locations?! Doubt it and even so, Sprint should be ashamed and should not be allowed to remain in business. People rely on their phones for work, families, SAFETY, etc. Sprint should not be allowed to remain in business and jeopardize, in many cases, people's livelihood.

It was GREAT before until the last 3 months I've noticed the reception got WORST... .T-Mobile get with the PROGRAM!

Lots of dropped calls recently. Internet just hangs. Text messages not going thru. I was at the apple store checking on one of our phones, I asked the worker if there could be a problem with my phone because seems like my internet not working lately. He asked me who my carrier was when I said Sprint he told me it's most likely a problem with Sprint. The customer right next to us overheard us and agreed it was a Sprint problem she also noticed and changed carrier. All my coworkers who used to have Sprint have already switched because of this.

In condo; dropping calls continually with two or three bars; other ATT cell phone is fine so it is a T Mobile issue

Sprint reception sucks. For 2 years now, Sprint has been promising that Hawaii is getting 4G. Unfortunately that has not happened yet. Moreover, current 3G reception is constantly cutting off, error message no connection, timed out; you have lost connections. Even wifi in home is not able to connect. Calling service center on mainland is disgusting. They told I had to buy the phone outright for $700 when I cancelled a line for a friend. In addition, they tell me that I no longer have a contract if I pay off the phone because I could no longer just pay the $30 / mo fee for 2 years until the phone would be paid off. Now when I want to switch carriers because of poor reception, dropped calls and text messages no being sent, the tell me that I still have a 2 year contract. If I cancel it will cost me $200 for canceling at this time. Sprint service is horrible. So 3 days ago I decided to lower my monthly fee because of the bad connection and service. Now I pay $30 / mo less for worse service / reception. Notifications no longer appear on phone, no longer ring / vibrate, no internet or wifi connection. Sprint offers no relief and they do not care.

Reception is very very bad. I switched from T-Mobile to Sprint to go on a family plan at the end of 2011 for we were told they will have 4G at the beginning of 2012. The reception was not as good as T-Mobile but it was O.K. However, in the last 6 months or so it's been very bad. Till today Aug 2014, they still do not have 4G. I have daily drop calls, poor hearing clarity, and very poor / slow internet service. I'm in sales driving daily and I can't use my map navigation for the position updates are delayed. I live in Kaneohe and work in Honolulu and in order to use my phone I have to go outside, or find a place where I can use my phone. Unacceptable! When I told them of my problem in Kaneohe they told me they just updated the towers in Kaneohe in June or July (can't remember when) and it takes about 30 days for the upgrade to completely take effect. I advised we're at the end of Aug, past 30 days! We (family) have attemped to get out of our plan but they would not release us from the canceling fees! My son who lives in Honolulu was forced to pay the cancelation fees ($220.00) for he could not continue using his phone in this manner. I have a Samsung S-3, he had an iphone. I am so upset with Sprint. The people who work at Sprint in Hawaii have been symphathetic for they are visited daily with upset customers. I have gone to 3 Sprint locations to complain but it appears authorization to waive the cancelation fees comes from the mainland. I've been advised my phone record does not justify waiving the cancelation fees, even though they have records that I experience 4-5 drop calls daily in the morning! No one in my office have Sprint. Some of them have already switched or did not go with Sprint because of the complaints they've been hearing. Does anyone have suggestions what I or we can do?
