Verizon

I have an old Verizon dumb phone with extendable antenna. I get 2 or 3 bars in this location, and the phone works. My wife's smart phone often does not work when driving through the coast range or other rural areas, while mine still works. So maybe the answer for people reporting such spotty coverage is to get a dumb phone for backup! At least you can still make calls...

Just some general thoughts. If you travel in the US and drive between major metropolitan areas you will want Verizon. Yes AT&T is now advertising the "Strongest LTE Signal". But that means little when you have fewer towers than your competitor. In layman's terms regardless of signal strength you need to have signals that overlap from one antenna / tower to the next to avoid dropped calls. Think of it as people with open umbrellas. If these people covered the USA with the edges of the umbrellas touching there would be few gaps. Essentially what the marketing folks at AT&T are saying is that they have bigger umbrellas. What they aren't saying is that they don't have as many of those big umbrellas and there are many places that their big umbrellas don't touch. So there are gaps in coverage. AT&T's strategy has been different then Verizon's. AT&T focused on major metro areas and less so on the arterials between the metro areas. So if you stay primarily within the city, AT&T will work fine for you. If you like to be mobile, then you should go with Verizon.

Calling reception is worst. We had been Verizon customers for over 10 yrs, then we switched to AT&T last November for monthly discount. We did not know AT&T has this bad reception in Vancouver! We use cell phones for our business, but we started receiving less phone call since switching carrier. My husband call the company to complain the problem many times, then he received the same answer as others like "cell towers have been damaged, upgrading, or adding, etc... " We are really regretted to switch the carrier.

Had Verizon then moved to Sprint to save some funds every month. Worked out ok I guess for the first year. During second year Sprint's service was terrible! I paid early termination fee and MOVED TO CRICKET (at&t towers, shhh) I would honestly say better service than both of my last carriers. 5 lines with mixed data $120 that's it no fees!

Often have dropped calls and its hard to have a normal conversation while in my house on the cell. Coverage is also very spotty along Idleman road and I typically lose calls when talking with hands free device in the car aroudn here. Data signal is poor too- the only way I have survived is with a landline in our house and using Comcast wireless for data in our house.

Just moved here, and tethered from my phone for the first two weeks before internet was put in. The connection speeds were amazing (seriously... it felt faster than my 25mbps connection). Call quality is mixed - it says that it's HD, but it doesn't sound particularly amazing. Overall, though, I'm pretty happy with it.

Majority of calls drop; others are poor quality. Data is so slow / / who cares that it is unlimited if I can't use it? Just switched from ATT to Tmobile. Planning to attempt a switch back, T-Mobile is horrible.

I've lived in this area for 12+ years and I've never consistently received such poor cell signal coverage / reception. Bought a new phone last year on Verizon's recommendation to try to improve my reception yet I still only get 1-2 bars 3G (both inside and outside). I know Verizon is aware of the problem but I just don't understand why there are still no Verizon towers in this entire area (SW Portland / Tigard). I'm no telecom expert but I'd feel better if there was at least 1 Verizon tower on this side of town or even in Tigard / Beaverton.

Once in a while my phone will work. Mostly however absolutely no bar's at all. Contacts to even get a phone number, works occasionally. Be into T-Mobile store several times. The employees are nice and try to be helpful. But unfortunately this doesn't solve the problems. At times I might get one bar! T-Mobile needs to figure out how to boost their singles. Before I forget can't message at all unless it's through Facebook! Help T-Mobile. :-(
