My wife and I each have the XV6700 PocketPC and we must give you one bit of advice when considering this phone. DON'T DO IT! Reception is sub-poor most anywhere in the cities, but have to admit at the State Fair yesterday and we both had full bars. I have friends that have Verizon and their phones are getting coverage nicely... it is my opinion that this phone is a very poor design. It runs WindowsCE so that may be most of its problem. ;)

DO NOT USE AT&T in the Minneapolis Market. I am counting the days to say BYE BYE to AT&T as my contract finally expires December 07. I constantly struggle to get a signal in both uptown and downtown areas. Over the last year I've asked about this at the cingular / att retail kiosks - and even the employees have agreed lots of signal related complaints come through all the time!

Almost no reception outside, no reception inside. When I go to a Verizon store and ask about new phones, they tell me reception is very good in all neighborhoods in 55448. When I tell them about my current problem they recommend I buy a signal booster for my house ($200 to 300). Great! With Verizon they want you to put up your own tower!

I live on the second floor of a duplex and my signal bars fluctuate between 0 and 5. Calls over 5 minutes long get dropped 80% of the time. After going into an At&T store and being (falsely) told that I need to upgrade my phone because it doesn't support the 1900mHz band (it does) they wouldn't register my reception complaint. Bye bye AT&T. I just wish I knew who to get service from. My sister lives nearby at 24th Ave and 38th St.and seems to have good luck with Verizon.

I live on the south side of NMMC, and coverage is DISMAL! 2 bars at best. What a joke. It's the same way at my place of employment in Plymouth too, BTW. I'm switching to T-Mobile as I type this.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile has improved significantly - recently I even get reception in the building elevator. Keep up with the tower expansions. Just last year over half of my calls were dropped inside my building.

Great reception everywhere. Work in a big brick building here and never have any problems.

Always seem to get good reception here. There's a spot closer to the Nokomis Coffee Shop where I ALWAYS drop calls, but it's just a few block there. Sometimes I'll have full bars and the phone just won't ring when a call comes through, but that only happens about once a month.

Alltel

The Alltel service has been very pleasing in the Mpls / St Paul metro areas. I have been able to place calls and have never had a situation where it hasn't worked well.

I get horrible reception with my LG phone on Verizon. I'm really disappointed! I've gotten software updates, etc., but friends that also have Verizon have problems down in this area (South Minneapolis). It is also really bad around 35th and Cedar. Sprint is no better. I finally was able to get out of my Sprint contract several years ago. I couldn't even keep a call going long enough to make my full complaint to customer service. It kept getting dropped. I had to call Sprint from my land line. I think they got the gist of the problem. Ugh! I may try T-Mobile or a different carrier. Isn't it something that you could get better reception through the hills of Utah or through some rural area in Minnesota than in the city of Minneapolis?
