In the Brooklyn neighborhood (near Ross Island Bridge) call reception is good 3-4 bars, but internet is a bit slow inside my apartment. I work on the northwest end of Hwy. 224 and call reception is good 3-4 bars, and internet is pretty fast as long as I'm outside, or near a window. I dog-sit regularly at a house on SE Woodstock and 36th and the call reception is fine outside, but internet is slow and the phone is almost unusable indoors 0-1 bar.

I can reiterate a lot of what other folks have already said about Sprint service in the Portland, OR metro area. I can also speak to service in the Salem / Keizer area. I took my phone in several times for service thinking all the dropped calls (even outside, no buildings involved) were my phone being a lemon. Turns out it has always been my carrier. I have a Samsung Epic 4G. I also think the 4G is a myth, at least in NE pdx. It wastes more battery looking than I've ever used on purpose! Around the house it will look like I have from 1 to 3 bars. I have three right now. I go to make a call, it drops to 0 to 1 bar. My girlfriend in Keizer has Verizon. She never has trouble with her phone. I will be on the phone with her, and the call will drop 1 to 3 times. If we get to three, she is so irritated we're done talking for the night. I don't blame her! It is incredibly irritating to get interrupted by technology 15x / week or more. Drops happen everywhere else locality wise and line-wise too, she is just the one I talk to the most. We go hiking and she has a bar literally in the middle of nowhere in a valley between two mountains! Don't know how Verizon does it. She had to make a call once in the middle of a backpacking trip to the 3 sisters while in the tent! My phone lost reception before the first side-road off the main highway and wasn't useful thereafter except to drain the battery searching. In a nutshell, you will pay more for Verizon, but with things like a credit union discount (10% / month), and combining centurylink if you have it in NE and other parts of PDX, you can totally do Verizon and have the prices comparable or lower than Sprint. Contract is finally done, switching very soon.

I work at the zoo. Reception up here is none - poor. I, unfortunately, need my phone for work. It is causing me to look at Verizon. There are alot of AT&T users up here with bad reception. Help us out AT&T!

Two bars of voice-only coverage at best in the SE. 2G and 3G data connections frequently drop out altogether and cannot be relied upon. 4G is slightly more available when outdoors but less stable, and low signal strength is evident in both low dbs and reduced battery life. Put simply, you will not get reliable 3G data coverage with Verizon when you're south of Burnside and west of 52nd, indoors or out. You might get enough 4G coverage for navigation to work, but it's spotty. Streaming audio or video on 3G or 4G is not happening.

Reception hardly works outside here in my packing lot - iPhone 4S - wifi works but no 3G or actual " Phone Service" --- Yes a little odd for the year 2012

Just moved from New Jersey to Orange County, CA one week ago today and went from having full bars in my house in Jesrey to walking down the street for one bar here in Santa Ana. This is ridicules, I thought AT&T were big over here as it is in the east coast. Are they doing anything about this or should I just start looking for a new provider?

I get almost full or totally full bars, however I get zero bandwidth. With the SpeedTest app, I get a "problem connecting to the network" error. Once in a while, the phone will connect to a different tower, and I get an entire 1 bar, however, I get about 300kbps output according to SpeedTest, and can browse the net, stream audio and video, you name it, that is, until it connects back to the closer / stronger tower with nearly full bars, where I get 0 bandwidth, not even 14kbps. Network works fine downtown Portland, at home, at nearly anywhere else in Portland. Could this be a problem with the tower? What's up? Anything I can do? Anyone I can complain to?

We frequently travel with friends who have Verizon and AT&T. Our reception is every bit as consistant as theirs is. Looking forward to LTE however with WIFI on at home and Work there is little need for it except when on the road and doing a web search. Phone is great. We are getting two full work days between charges with heavy phone, email use.

Indoors reception is zero. Outdoors I'm lucky to get one or two bars. Sadly, this is at Oregon's #1 paid tourist attraction--the Oregon Zoo. Verizon and T-Mobile get great reception though.
