Verizon

I have Verizon and my spouse has Sprint. He has to connect to wireless to get the speed I get through 3G on my Verizon Droid X. I get slower speed on our wireless. He's frustrated and considering a move to Verizon, but he is now frustrated with Verizon due to their new limited and expensive data plans. I'm still on an unlimited data plan through Verizon. If I weren't on unlimited, I might opt for a phone and carrier that's cheaper and runs better off wireless - except for the fact that wireless isn't always an option. What to do? Always has full bars except for when in the West Hills where 3G is super slow... 3G speed is pretty good but if my phone didn't have Wifi I would be screwed..

Zero to two bars if I am lucky at my house which is a block away from 71st and NE Glisan. At Glisan it jumps to 5 bars.

Only 1 flashing bar of signal at my apartment in Milwaukie. In Portland I get full signal readout. 3G is an absolute joke, but I knew that from the beginning. VM basically gets Sprint / Boost Mobiles left over 3G bandwidth. :(

Overall, my coverage for calling and texting is pretty good, but occasionally, I'll go into roaming in almost every part of town--especially when the weather is really bad. 3G is slow to average for what 3G is supposed to be, but 4G is terrible, and doesn't seem to get a very strong signal(if any) in my apartment--especially for me living downtown, but it works great outside. Walking around sometimes outside I run into dead spots, but I'm sure that's normal. But if 4-6mpbs is the norm for WiMax 4G(which I know that it's capable of much higher speeds), then as soon as my contract goes up, I will be looking to switch because sometimes 3G is better, and if I wanted just 3G, then I would only get a 3G phone! Sprint really needs to step up their game in every aspect of their service or they will be not only losing me as a customer, but I'm sure a lot of others as well. One last thing, I have absolutely little to no internet service on or around the PCC Sylvania campus! What is that!? Verizon has better coverage for places like that then Sprint does. I had Sprint back when they were PCS and they still failed in comparison. Get it together, Sprint!

I live in a house near Albina (close to where it transitions into Mississippi) and get spotty reception all throughout my neighborhood. I get zero reception in my bedroom downstairs, while my boyfriend has no issues whatsoever on his Verizon phone. I hit several dead spots on the bus downtown.

Occasional dropped call, but I blame my phone. The only place without coverage is the basement-- and that's to be expected!

Very bad reception on 3G. Dropped calls and people complain that my audio drops out during conversations. Data speed is usually slower than it was when I used Edge on my iPhone 3G but sometimes it actually works. If I didn't have access to Wifi I'd really be screwed. AT&T has had bad 3G in my area for years and still hasn't done a thing about it and now that I'm on a device that doesn't allow me to disable 3G and use Edge I'm fed up. I'll be switching providers next week and can't wait to be done with AT&T. I also have a friend who used to have AT&T issues on NW 19th and Overton and he said switching from AT&T made a world of difference.
