MetroPCS
Yet to have problems inside and out of my apartment.

I've been with AT&T formerly (Cellular One) and have had a very good reception anywhere in the Bay Area, with the only exception in Benicia where I couldn't get reception. Other than that it has great coverage, even indoors I get between 3 and 4 bars at home.

Should be great: I've 4 bars all the time. But my calls keep on being dropped. When the call is dropped, I have 0/1 bar and then they come back. I don't know if the phone is to blame.

The only time I have problem with my reception is when I go down the Bernal Hill or going down Cortland Ave., passing Winfield St. right before reaching Mission St. My calls get dropped. Otherwise, I get great reception every where else.

Sprint PCS drops calls from Eureka Valley / Upper Castro and south through Diamond Heights and Glen Park. They really need to beef up reception in San Francisco. As a result, I need a new carrier because that is my commute route.

Reception fades in and out and calls are lost when I walk around my house. Very unreliable service.

Before the Cingular / AT&T merge, reception was horrible (0 to 3 bars, mostly 0-1) and only by the window. After the merge I get reception (3 bars average) anywhere. Not the best reception, but definitely no dropped calls.

I get from 0-2 bars inside my apartment, and it bounces up and down a lot, causing choppy calls. Two bars is an anomaly, for sure. No service is the norm. Heading down Chenery St. toward Noe Valley, the signal never improves. I just walked to my laundromat and it seems like there's a dead spot that runs from my place all the way to 30th St and beyond - no network at all. If you walk up Chenery Street into the Glen Park neighborhood, however, the signal picks up considerably. By the time you're at the BART station it's generally fine (though very little service on the platform itself). Incidentally, I just switched from Sprint and their service was comparably bad in this neighborhood, though I think T-Mobile's is a little worse.

Never had any problem with coverage with no dropped calls either. There is one weak spot around 280 and cesar chavez intersection but it has been improving after the ATT Cingular merger. I would recommend ATT / Cingular to anyone living in SOMA (but please have a device which catches both 850 and 1900 spectrum).

No reception once you leave the street and go into the buildings in Cole Valley. Even now that Cingular and AT&T have merged there is zero reception once you leave the street and go into a building.
